I was looking for something to make my mother-in-law for her birthday. She isn’t the easiest person to get gifts for, but after lots of searching I came across the Confetti Cardigan by Ashleigh from Sewrella. I love the simple, yet classic, design of the cardigan and it fit right in with my mother-in-law’s wardrobe. She is not one for overly ornate clothes and so this was perfect.
I made it in size small as she is a petite lady but I did have to adjust the sleeve length. I reduced them by 2 inches by removing 2 rows from each Main Color group in the color change chart. It ended up fitting her perfectly. I did have to learn how to do a mattress seam for this cardigan but it is incredibly simple and I can’t wait to use it in other projects.
As this pattern called for a DK weight yarn (and my stash is mostly worsted) I had to venture out to find the perfect yarn in a color she would love. I ended up at Hobby Lobby and they had a great selection of yarn in general. I went with Baby Bee Sweet Delight in Pooltime for the main color and Flannel Marled for the contrasting color.
I love everything about this cardigan and how it came out. It was a great pattern and great yarn. And while my finished cardigan does not have the confetti which is a main feature in the original design, I think this cardigan would look great in just about any color combination. It truly was a super easy pattern to follow and I would make another confetti cardigan in a heartbeat if I didn’t have a million other projects in the works!
Her cardigan turned out beautiful.
It came out great! 🙂
